US Field Hockey Men Open Mexico Four Nation Tournament With
7-0 win
Colorado Springs, Colo. (Aug 10) Shawn Hindy scored
four goals to lead the United States mens field
hockey team to a 7-0 victory over Venezuela in the first day of
action at the Mexico Four Nation Tournament in Salamancia.
In the other game of the tournament, Cuba defeated host Mexico, 1-0.
Hindy scored the first two goals of the contest off a penalty stroke and field goal
at the 14 and 27 minute marks before teammate Jarred Martin (Saratoga springs, N.Y.) added
a field goal in the 32nd minute to give the U.S. a 3-0 halftime lead.
Brothers Pat and Sean Harris sandwiched a pair of goals around two Hindy second
half tallies to complete the U.S. scoring. The game
marked the first official international contest for 15-year old Sean Harris as well as U.S. players David
Schmoyer, Bryan Rauschenberger, Afzal Siddiqui, Arjan Reyatt, Malachi Mahan and Chris
Terrebonne.
Goalkeeper Siddiqui recorded the shutout in his first start in the USA cage.
We started off a little slow, but we picked it up in the second half,
said U.S. manager Alva Serrett.
The junior players played exceptionally well.
The U.S. continues the
