Capture US Field Hockey National Futures Tournament Titles

Athletes representing the Pennsylvania regions of Lancaster and Stroudsburg captured top
honors at the U.S. Field Hockey National Futures Tournament at the U.S. Field Hockey
National Training Center.
In the Under-19
division, Lancaster defeated Detroit in penalty strokes to earn its first National Futures
Tournament title. The two teams battled to a 2-2 draw in regulation time before Lancaster
won the shootout, 3-1.
In the Under-16
Division, Stroudsburg defeated Troy, a a team of athletes from Virginia, North Carolina
and New York, 1-0, to capture the gold medal. State College (Pa.) downed St. Louis, 3-0,
to win the bronze medal. Cape May (N.J.) defeated San Jose (Calif.), 1-0, to earn the
third place spot.
The 32-team tournament
represents the culminating event of U.S. Field Hockeys Futures Talent Identification
Program. Athletes in the program train at regional sites across the country from January
through May with the top players selected to compete in the National Futures Tournament.
At the tournament, the
512 athletes compete for selection to higher level Olympic Development programs including
B Camp and the AAU Junior Olympic Games (for U16 athletes).
