Korea Downs US Women at Champions
Challenge Randburg, South Africa -- Kim Seo Hee collected the game's only
goal as Korea downed the U.S. women's field hockey team, 1-0, in the final game of
round-robin play at the inaugural Champions Challenge.
The loss drops
the U.S. into Sunday's 5th/6th place game against Russia while Korea will meet England for
the tournament title. The winner of the Champions Challenge will earn a spot in the
Champions Trophy competition scheduled for Aug. 23- Sept. 1 in Macau, China.
In Friday's
other games, India edged Russia 3-2 while South Africa topped previously unbeaten England,
3-0.
The U.S. was
dealt another blow following Wednesday's 2-0 loss to England, when defender and corner
striker Jill Reeve suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Reeve's injury marked the
second U.S. starter to suffer a tournament-ending injury at the even. Forward Tara Jelley
tore an ACL prior to the start of the Challenge. Feb. 15 at
