Scotland Takes Third Place in International Atlantic Cup

            Eight different players scored as the Scotland National Team took a 10-0 victory over Mexico in the consolation game of the International Atlantic Cup in Virginia Beach, Va.

            Scotland controlled the opening tip and sent the ball down field immediately where Susan Gilmour passed the ball into the top right hand side of the circle setting up Helen Walker for the game-winner just two minutes into the contest. 

            In all, Scotland tallied six goals in the first stanza.  Claire Lampard was one of Scotland’s two multiple scorers on the afternoon, reaching the back of the Mexico net on penalty corners.  Emma Rochlin and Walker helped set up the play in both the 7^th and 18^th minutes of play.  Linda Clement registered her first of two goals, while Vikki Bunce and captain Cath Stirling each also scored for a 6-0 Scotland half-time advantage.

            Following the half, the Mexico defense held the opposition scoreless until late in the second half where Scotland added four more goals to itslead.  Samantha Judge tallied the first goal of the second half at the 54^th minute, sending a rebound off the Mexico keeper from a penalty corner shot into the net.  In the closing minutes, Scotland added three goals in the span of eight minutes from Alisa Young, Rochlin, and Clement, her second goal of the day.

            Scotland outshot Mexico 22-0 and also held the advantage in penalty corners, 17-1.  The penalty corner by Mexico was their first of the tournament.  Mexico’s goalkeeper Selene Santoyo made 16 saves. 

            Scotland finishes tournament play with a 2-2 record, while Mexico closed play 0-4.
