US Field Hockey Names 2002 Women's
Under-16 Team COLORADO SPRINGS -- The U.S. Field
Hockey Association welcomed the newest members of its international elite teams with the
selection of the 2002 U.S. Women's Under-16 Squad.
Selected by U.S. Field Hockey as a result of performances at the AAU Junior
Olympics held in early August, the team will have the opportunity to compete in
international events during the upcoming year. Entering
its fifth year as a US Field Hockey program, the U16 team previously placed third at the
annual Netherlands Easter Tournament in Valkenswaard in each of the last four years.
The 2002 squad features four repeat selections from the 2001 team including Paige
Schmidt (Westtown, Pa.), Lauren Walls (Berlin, N.J.), Mallory Weisen (Middleburg, Pa.) and
Kiersten Wood (Lititz, Pa.).
The team includes a pair of twin sisters in Lauren and Ashley Walls who become the
second pair of twins to be named to the team since 1999 when Natalie and Alexis
Martirosian of Richmond, Va. were selected to the squad.
The roster also includes Christina Boarman (Fulton, Md.), Kay Brown (Ann Arbor,
Mich.), Meredith Brown (Elkton, Md.); Michelle Cheek (Marmora, N.J.), Laura Dean (Dear,
Del.), Alyssa Emrick (Bangor, Pa.), Katelyn Falgowski (Landenberg, Pa.), Gwendolyn Hunter
(Seaville, N.J.), Anne Janus (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.), Michelle Kasold (Chapel Hill, N.C.),
Ashley Lennington (Carlisle, Pa.), Amy Lewis (Mount Holly, N.J.), Shayna McGeehan
(Grantville, Pa.), Nicole Ng (Saratoga, Calif.), Roselyn Miller (Saratoga, Calif.), Kadi
Sickel (Plaiston, N.H.), Laura Suchoski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.), Allison Tanner (New
Providence, Pa.) and Sarah Wilhite (Hummelstown, Pa.) U.S. Field Hockey's coaching committee
will select the coach of the U.S. Under-16 Team in November.
The Under-16 Team serves to introduce young players to international competition
while preparing athletes for future National Team consideration. In addition to the
Under-16 team, the U.S. Field Hockey Association will sponsor an Under-23 Team, Under-19
Team and the U.S. National Team.
The U.S. Field Hockey Association is the National Governing Body for mens and
womens field hockey in the United States, and is responsible for the training and
preparation of teams to participate in the Olympic and Pan American Games and for the
