US Field Hockey U18 Women To Defend Title at
Montreal Cup
Results Scheduled for June 29-July 1 at Montreals Molson Stadium and Centre Claude Robillard Montreal, the Montreal Cup, or LaCoupe de Montréal, features elite teams from Canada, the U.S. and Europe. The U.S. team captured the Cup title in 2000 after outscoring its opponents 35-6 and blanking Ontario, 1-0, in the championship game. The U.S. team opens play in the 10-team tournament on Friday, June 29 against PEI Under-21at 8:30 a.m. before taking on Nova Scotia at 7:50 p.m. The team continues pool play on Saturday with games against GOA Reds (10:50 a.m.) and Sasketchewan (3:30 p.m.). Crossover and classification matches are scheduled for Sunday with the women's final at 2:20 p.m. Under head coach Cheryl Murtagh and assistant coach Robin Balducci, the U.S. roster includes high school All-Americans Colleen Barbieri (Centereach, N.Y.), Emily Boyer (Oak Park, Ill.), Katie Grant (Lehighton, Pa.), Karin Garp (Spencer, N.Y.), Lori Hillman (Gibbsboro, N.J.), Alexis Martirosian (Richmond, Va.) and Natalie Martirosian (Richmond, Va.), Brooke Miller (Hummelstown, Pa.), Katie Moyneur (Escondido, Calif.), Lauren Powley (Mountaintop, Pa.), Gracie Sorbello (Davis, Calif.) and goalkeeper Katy Tran (Grantville, Pa.). The team also includes Amy Stopford (Hillsborough, N.C.), Adrienne Hortillosa (Chula Vista, Calif.), Natalie Dawson (Berlin, N.J.) and goalkeeper Christy Morgan (Centreville, Va.). Barbieri,
Stopford and Natalie Martirosian will be making their second trip to the Montreal Cup
after helping the U.S. Under-19 team to the 2000 title. At
the California Cup, the U18 women collected a second place finish for the second straight
year after dropping a 4-2 decision to STX Express (Md.) in the championship game. The US
team went 2-1 in pool play before defeating Lomas (Canada), 1-0, in its semifinal match. Barbieri and Hortillosa led the
team in scoring with two goals each while Hillman and Natalie Martirosian added goals for
the U.S. team.
