Egypt Stops USA Men, 2-1, at World Cup Qualifier

Edinburgh, Scotland - The U.S. men's field hockey team dropped its third straight 2-1 decision with a one-goal loss to Egypt at the World Cup Qualifying Tournament.
The loss places the U.S. in a classification crossover match with Russia on Friday. The U.S. defeated Russia in yet another one-goal match, 1-0, in the first round of pool play. The winner of Friday's match will play the winner of Friday's Bangladesh/Egypt match for the 13th/14th spots in the tournament, while the losers will play for the 15th/16th places in the 16-team tourney.
After opening the second stage of pool play with 2-1 losses to Chile and France, the U.S. looked ready to end the streak against Egypt. But after narrowly missing on two early penalty corner opportunities, the U.S. watched the momentum swing to Egypt when Ahem Ezz El Din connected on a  penalty corner with three minutes remaining in the first half.
Ezz El Din struck again seven minutes into the second half on another penalty corner to give Egypt a 2-0 lead at the 52nd minute mark. The USA's Shawn Hindy prevented the shutout with a field goal in the final seconds of the game.

Members of the U.S. team include Jang Badhesha (Santa Clara, Calif.), Rinku Bhamber (Simi Valley, Calif.), Kyle Brantner (Simi Valley, Calif.), Patrick Cota    (Camarillo, Calif.), Steve Danielson (San Diego, Calif.), Andrew Duncan (Edmonton, Alberta), Logan Hargett (Ventura, Calif.),  Pat Harris (Moorpark, Calif.), Shawn Hindy   (Westlake Village, Calif.), Binh Hoang (Westlake, Calif.), Daraspreet Kainth (Fullerton, Calif.),  Koijan Kainth (Fullerton, Calif.), Ryan Langford (Camarillo, Calif.), Jarred Martin (Saratoga Springs, NY), Shawn Nakamura (Camarillo, Calif.), Todd Robinson (Ventura, Calif.),    Daljeet Sagoo (Fullerton, Calif.), Mike Schanafelt (Camarillo, Calif.).
