In consultation with the President of the India Hockey Confederation, Mr K.P.S Gill, it is not possible to hold the first Champions Challenge, men and women, in New Delhi in December this year.

Based on the information received from the national associations qualified for this event it was clear that only a few national associations would have travelled to India due to the international political circumstances.

The FIH will further investigate the possibilities to have both tournaments held, preferably on the same dates, in another country. The possibility of holding the tournament in two different countries (for men and for women) will also be explored.

The U.s. women were to participate in the inaugural event along with host Germany, England, Korea, South Africa and host India. The Champions Challenge features the six highest-ranked teams in the world that did not qualify for the six-team Champions Trophy.
