COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Fresh off a second place finish in the Super Division of lst month's California Cup, U.S. Field Hockey's Women’s Under 19 Team returns to action June 29-July 2 at the La Coupe de Montréal -- The Montreal Cup -- at Molson Stadium and Centre Claude Robillard Montreal.

The annual tournament for elite clubs and regional, provincial and national teams has included squads from Europe, Africa, Asia and the West Indies in its eight-team field. The U.S. last participated in the tournament in 1998 when the Under-19 team placed second after losing to Ndestruck, 6-1, in the final.

The team for this year's cup includes Christine Ashley (Plains, Pa.), Colleen Barbieri (Centereach, NY), Emily Boyer (Oak Park, Ill.), Carey Fetting-Smith (Baltimore, Md.) Katie Jo Gerfen (Lititz, Pa.), Kelsey Keeran (Columbus, Ohio), Tiffany Leister (Oley, Pa.) Natalie Martirosian (Richmond, Va.), Claire Miller (Scarsdale, NY),  Jessica Rose (Lititz, Pa.), Emily Sinkhorn (Dublin, Ohio), Amy Stopford (Hillsborough, NC), Emily Townsend (Houston, Texas), Maria Whitehead  (West Chester, Pa.), Sarah Wright (Bethesda, Md.) and goalkeepers Kelly Baril (Peabody, Mass) and Katie Zacarian (Amherst, Mass.).

The team includes six 1999 high school All-Americans in Fetting-Smith, Gerfen, Martirosian, Miller, Sinkhorn and Barbieri. At the collegiate level, Leister earned 1999 Big-10 Conference Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman at Iowa while Rose collected a goal in the NCAA championship game in helping the University of Michigan to a runner-up NCAA finish. Ashley (Duke), Whitehead (Wake Forest) and Baril and Townsend (both of Princeton) round out the team's collegiate stars.

Fourteen-year old Stopford, already a veteran of two U.S. Under-16 teams, is the youngest member of the squad

Over the Memorial Day weekend, head coach Cheryl Murtagh’s team placed second in the Women’s Super Division at the 2000 California Cup. The team went 4-1-1 at the tournament including a 2-0 loss to Slime (Calif) in the championship game.

Goalkeepers Baril and Zacarian combined for two shutouts at the tournament, while Ashley and Rose led the team in scoring with three goals apiece.
