U.S. Field Hockey Names 2000-01 Women’s Under-16 Squad

U.S. Under-16 Team 2000-01 Roster

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The U.S. Field Hockey Association has unveiled its newest generation of young field hockey stars with the announcement of the 2000-01 U.S. Under-16 Squad.

Selected by U.S. Field Hockey as a result of performances at the AAU Junior Olympics held in early August, the team will have the opportunity to compete in international events during the upcoming year.  Now in its fourth year as a US Field Hockey program, the U16 team previously placed third at the annual Netherlands Easter Tournament in Valenswaard in 1998, 99 and 2000.

The 2000-20001 squad features one repeat selection from the 1999-2000 team in Carey Maser of Medford, N.J.   Rachel Dawson (Berlin, NJ) and Megan Foster (Berlin, NJ) were named to this year's team after serving as alternates in 1999-00.

The roster also includes Emmaus (Pa.) High School teammates Laree Beans (Allentown, Pa.) and Kristina Foster (Emmaus, Pa.) as well as Alyssa Curmaci (Factoryville, Pa.), Kim Drofitz (Wappingers Falls, NY), Lindsay Holman (Bridgeton, NJ), Doni-Melissa Jantzen (Shoreham, NY), Kara Lentz, Cara-Lynn Lopestri (San Diego, Calif.), Paige Schmidt (Westtown, Pa.), MacKenzie Stuart (Washington Depot, Conn.), Kristen Tiner (Houston, Texas), Lauren Walls (Berlin, NJ), Mallory Weisen (Middleburg, Pa), Jamie Whitten (maidens, Va.) and Kiersten Wood (Lititz, Pa.). Goalkeepers for the team are Kristina Gagliardi (Piscataway, NJ), Elizabeth Riley (Palmyra, Pa.) and Caitlin Williams (Greenland, NH).  U.S. Field Hockey's Dee Pasternick will serve as head coach of the team for the second year.

The Under-16 Team serves to introduce young players to international competition while preparing athletes for future National Team consideration. In addition to the Under-16 team, the U.S. Field Hockey Association sponsors an Under-21 Team, Under-19 Team and the U.S. National Team.

The U.S. Field Hockey Association is the National Governing Body for men’s and women’s field hockey in the United States, and is responsible for the training and preparation of teams to participate in the Olympic and Pan American Games and for the promotion and development of the sport throughout the United States.
