US Women's Field Hockey National Developmental Team to Take on Canada

Colorado Springs, Colo. -- U.S. Field Hockey coach Tracey Belbin will get another look at some of the program's top young players when the U.S. sends its women's National Developmental Team to Winnipeg for a six-game series with Canada.

Comprised of veteran members of the U.S. National Team as well as members of the U.S. Under-21 team, the squad will compete in Winnipeg from July 9-17 and will meet the Canadian National Team in daily games July 10-12 and 14-16.

"This is another chance to try some new players, as well as to continue with the development of the National team," said Belbin.  "The biggest problem for the US is a lack of competition throughout the year. Considering this tour may be the last for many months, it is important for us to begin consolidating players as well as finding new players to slot into the team. Next year is an important year for the US with the Americas Cup and the World Cup Qualifier. We need to find a better team to push the US further on the international scene."

The Canada tour team features 12 regular members of the U.S. National squad including Kate Barber (West Chester, Pa.), Chris DeBow (West Chester, Pa.), Kris Fillat (San Diego, Calif.), Tara Jelley (Greenfield, Mass.), Katie Kauffman (West Lawn, Pa.), Tracey Larson (Morrisville, Pa.), Kristen McCann (Allentown, Pa.), Nancy Pelligreen (St. Louis, Mo.), Jill Reeve (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.), Jana Toepel (Perkiomenville, Pa.) and goalkeepers Peggy Storrar (Mahopac, N.Y.) and Jana Withrow (Hockessin, Del.).  Belbin also brought up National team alternate Amy Herz (Willow Grove, Pa.) to join the tour team.

The team also includes three members of the U.S. Under-21 team in the University of North Carolina's Carrie Lingo (Rehoboth Beach, Del.), Penn State All-American Maegan Galie (Collegeville, Pa.) and high school All-American Kristi Gannon (Escondido, Calif/San Pasqual HS)
