Men's U16 2001 Schedule
Male athletes age 15 and younger as of Dec. 31, 2000
are invited to try out for the U.S. Under 16 Team when the U.S. Field Hockey Association
conducts its 2001 team trials, Jan. 13-14, 2001 at Moorpark College in Moorpark, Calif.
and Feb. 3-4, 2001 at the Capital Sports Training Center in Hershey, Pa.
The trials open Saturday, Jan. 13 (West) and Feb. 3
(East) with a morning session from 7:30-11:00 am and an afternoon session from 2:00-5:00
p.m. Trials continue on Sunday (Jan. 14, West; Feb 4, East) with sessions from 8:00-11:00
am and 1:00-3:00 pm. Athletes are permitted to attend one trial. The participation fee for
the trials is $75.00 and all trial participants must be US citizens and current members of
U.S. Field Hockey.
Applications for participation in the trials are
available from the U.S. Field Hockey National Office at 719-578-4567, ext. 7374. The
completed application, proof of citizenship and trial fee are due to the National Office
by Jan. 1, 2001. Athletes attending the trials are responsible for their own housing,
meals and transportation costs
The U.S. Under 16 Team is scheduled to compete in the Netherlands over
Easter in 2001 with additional tours tentatively scheduled for Vancouver and the
Carribean. In addition, team members will compete in the U.S. Field Hockey California
League in the summer and will host a team from Canada in August.

Trial Information:
Travel
Travel to the Trial site and transportation to and fromt he field is the responisbility of
the athelte. Moorpark can be accesed by both the LA and Burbank airports. Hershey can be
accessed by the Harrisburg/Middletown airport.

Housing
Housing costs are the financial responsibility of each participant. For the West Coast
Trial, athletes may choose to stay at the Grand Vista Hotel, 999 Enchanted Way, Simi
Valley, CA 93065, phone 805-583-2000. For the East Coast Trial, athletes may choose to
stay at the Days Inn Hershey, 350 Weest Chocolate Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033, phone:

Fitness Level
Athletes are expected to be at a high level of physical fitness for the Trial, as fitness
testiong will occur at both Trials. Athletes will participate in a 12-minute run and the
40-meter dash. Results will only be used to collect data, not for selection purposes.
Selections
Please note that the 2001 Men's U16 Team will be chosen from the pool of athletes who
attend the West and East Coast Trials. The Team, and alternates if needed, will be
announced ont he USFHA website, www.usfieldhockey.com,
no later than February 11, 2001

Facilities
At the West Coast Trial, all hockey sessions will be held outside on wet turf. At the East
Caost Trial, all hockey sessions will be held indoors on dry turf. Fitness testing will be
conducted outside on either a dirt or rubber track. Please dress accordingly.

Please note that htis schedule is tentative and that some sessions
may be cut short. Therefore, please have flexible transportation arranged.
Passport
All athletes are encouraged to start the process of securing a passport. The Team will
have at least one international event in 2001. Passports are the financial responsibility
of the athlete.
Trainer/Insurance
A certifies trainer will be on-site during the Trial. Please bring your insurance card
with you to each session. Athletes will be responsible for the cost of any medical care
related to injuries that occur during the Trial.
Paperwork
Please complete the registration form and return it with the trial fee, proof of US
citizenship, USFHA membership and payment, if necessary by January 1, 2001. At that time,
you will be sent an Athlete Packet which needs to be completed and brought to the Trial.

*Goalkeepers must have a full set of protective equipment including helmet, throat
protector, shoulder/arm/chest protector, pelvic/leg protection, pads, kickers and gloves.
