B-Camp Athletes To Take Next Step Toward 2001 US Field Hockey Team Selections

 B-Camp Selections: U16 Rosters

Colorado Springs -- One hundred twenty-five of some of the country's most promising field hockey athletes will get a chance to continue their National Team aspirations when the U.S. Field Hockey Association conducts its annual Women's B Camp, July 26-30, at Penn State University.

Under the direction of U.S. National Team assistant coach Tracey Griesbaum, the invited athletes will spend a week of intensive skills training and analysis of international tactics and strategies. The athletes earned their invitations to B Camp as a result of performances at U.S. Field Hockey's Super Camp, Futures National Tournament, The United Airlines Field Hockey League and the 1999 A Camp. First-team collegiate All-America selections also earn invitations to B Camp.

Based on their performances at B Camp, athletes may then advance to the next step in the elite team development process with an invitation to A Camp in late December and early January. Selections to the U.S. National Team as well as the U.S. Under-18 and Under-21 Teams are made at A Camp.

In 2001, the U.S. National Team is tentatively scheduled for competition at the inaugural Americas Cup tournament in Jamaica, FIH World Cup Qualifying Tournament in France and the FIH Champions Challenge in India. The U.S. 2001 Under-21 Team will compete in the FIH Junior World Cup in Buenos Aires.
