USA Field Hockey is pleased to announce the initiation of five Field Hockey development programs specifically designed for youth boys.
Partnerships with affiliate members in Miami, Washington DC, Chicago, Colorado Springs and the San Francisco Bay area have been designed to seed the identification and training of new young male athletes with the intention of building a solid foundation towards a prosperous future for Men's Field Hockey in the United States.
"We are delighted to partner with the likes of the dcDragons, Stanford Storm and our other colleagues around the country to assist with the provision of opportunity and development of this great sport to this extremely important age group," said Men's National Team Coach Nick Conway.
In this new venture, USA Field Hockey will be partnering with existing youth programs in Washington DC and San Francisco primarily to assist in the development of the U12 playing age range, but also to facilitate the continuation of the good work already in progress in the U16 age group.
Additionally, new youth programs are planned in conjunction with USA Field Hockey affiliate members in Miami, Chicago and Colorado Springs.
"Our goal is to have 30 new U-12 male field hockey players competing in each of the five seeding programs by the spring of 2009," said Conway.
An 8 week program, designed by USA Field Hockey Technical Director Terry Walsh, will be available in each region with online access provided to all registered athletes.
Starter Kits (Stick, Shoulder Bag, Ball, T-Shirt, Mouthguard, Shin Guards) are available in every area to accommodate for beginners.
Registering for this program requires each athlete to be a member of USA Field Hockey and to pay a $45 fee. The fee covers facility hire, coaching, equipment, insurance and program online access."
