The IFWHA
Following the founding of the men's International Hockey Federation
(FIH) in 1924, women's field hockey continued its rapid growth in many
countries,
and in 1927, the International Federation of Women's Hockey Associations (IFWHA) was
formed. The founding members included Australia, Denmark, England, Ireland, Scotland,
South Africa, the United States and Wales.
The IFWHA conducted Conferences in regular intervals (3-4 years), and included a
tournament in conjunction with the Conference. In 1975, the tournament was conducted as
the First World Championship. A year earlier, the FIH, which included national
associations comprised of both men's and women's teams,
initiated the first Women's
World Cup.
In 1982, the FIH and IFWHA merged to become form the FIH.
