Terry Walsh
is the Technical Director for USA Field Hockey. His appointment
marks a new era of field hockey in the USA. With an
unparalleled passion for hockey and a world reputation in sport
technology, Terry Walsh is providing our athletes with cutting
edge skill and expertise. He is a hockey ‘coaching guru’ and is
committed to helping our coaches and players achieve their
highest potential.
Terry Walsh
will oversee all aspects of USA Field Hockey’s men’s and women’s
coaching and coach development while creating a system of play
for the United States at all levels of the Olympic Pipeline.
“The
challenge to develop a national coaching methodology combining
knowledge and technology is going to be exceptional, and one
that will require input from everyone already in the program,’
said Walsh. “The number of athletes playing hockey in the USA
provides a solid platform to develop performances at a very high
level. Indeed, international field hockey needs a strong USA.
I am very privileged and excited about being given an
opportunity to provide input.”
With his
commitment to the development of U.S. athletes, Terry will
providing our Futures coaches with an exceptional online, video
active curriculum. The National curriculum is based on 10
sessions. Coaches can click into each session and view not only
the drills, but live video demonstrating the proper skills
required to effectively perform a skill. Terry is also providing
our Futures athletes with a
Skills from the Top online video
subscription for all our member athletes. Both the curriculum
and the athlete skill video are
available online.
Terry’s
resume includes serving as the previous Head Coach of the
Netherlands men’s team which he guided to a silver medal at the
2004 Olympic Games in Athens. He is a Master Coach by the
International Hockey Federation (FIH). He previously served as
Head Coach for the Australian men’s team from 1997 – 2000. From
2001-03, Walsh served as an elite coaching consultant and
software development manager for Sydney-based SportsTec, a
leading provider of sports training Technology. He also served
as a consultant to the U.S. Women’s Team and former National
Team coach, Pam Hixon, at the 1996 Olympic Games. Terry is a
three-time Olympian for Australia and earned a silver medal in
the 1975 Olympic Games in Montreal and a fourth place finish at
the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. He also appeared in three World
Cups for Australia including the gold medal team in 1986.
