In
Europe, top teams can easily cross country borders and
compete against one another. As our athletes move up the
Olympic Pipeline they often lack the international
experience that other countries can easily achieve. The
trip to Holland each year is designed to expose our young
aspiring hockey players to some of the best hockey played in
the world. The Dutch have an extensive club system and play
a high level of hockey.
The USA annually takes an U-16 and/or
U-19 team to Holland. We first extend invitations to the
Olympic Development Select athletes, with remaining spots
being filled by the Futures Elite. The tour is self-funded.
The
teams depart from an East coast airport the week prior to
Easter. The teams, tour, train, and play test matches
together for five days. On Easter weekend the U-16 team
travels South to Valkenswaard to compete in the H.O.D. U-16
Easter Tournament. The U-19 continue play with select clubs
and train at local Dutch Clubs. Some years the U-19 team
also participates in an U-19 Easter Tournament, depending on
the competitions available that given year.
