*The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) as a state agency does not sponsor a state championship event in field hockey. However, the Central Coast, San Diego and Southern Sections of the CIF do run championship events. Field hockey programs are also sponsored in the Sac-Joaquin and Northern sections. Each section operates independently and runs its own athletic events, playoffs and programs.

*The Southwest Prepatory Conference (SPC) consists of 13 private schools in Oklahoma and Texas. The conference conducts the region's field hockey championship tournament each November. As a result of the gasoline shortage in the early 70s, the conference was divided into two divisions and crowned two champions.
