Field hockey athletes at
all levels strive for the ultimate reward whether it is an Olympic gold medal or a pool
championship t-shirt. The following pages salute the players and teams reaching the summit

The Olympic Games
Held every four years under the authority of the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Games bring together
athletes to participate in peaceful competition while promoting friendship, solidarity,
fair play and the harmonious development of the individual. (more)
The World Cup
The crowning achievement in international field hockey, the World Cup is held
every four years to determine the men's and women's field hockey world champions. (more)
The Champions Trophy
The International Hockey Federation's premier annual event, the Champions Trophy
features the world's top ranked teams competing in a round-robin format with the teams
advancing to final classification games. (more)
The Pan American Games
Held every four years during the summer preceding the Olympic Games, the Pan
American Games present a showcase of world-class talent on a continental stage. (more)
FIH Junior World Cup
The premier event for international junior teams (under 21 years of age), the FIH
Junior World Cup is conducted every four years. Sixteen teams are invited to the the men's
and women's tournament based on performances at continental championship events.

Junior Pan
American Championships
The continental championship for junior teams in North, Central and South America
and the Caribbean. Held every four years, the winner of the Junior Pan Am Championships
earns an automatic bid to the FIH Junior World Cup.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association
(NCAA)
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) first began sponsoring a collegiate
field hockey championship for women in 1981-82. (more)
The
Association for Intercollegiate Athletics For Women (AIAW)
Before the NCAA adopted women's
athletics under its umbrella of collegiate championships, the Association for
Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) governed women's collegiate sports and
conducted the first championships for women.

US Field Hockey National Hockey
Festival
Since 1922, The US Field Hockey Association has conducted a national tournament
featuring the nation's top athletes. The tournament added high school, open and mixed
divisions in the early 1980s to become the largest amateur field hockey event in the
world.
US Field Hockey National Indoor
Tournament
Following its inaugural season in 1981, the National Indoor Tournament has grown
from a wintertime diversion to a full-time devotion. No longer just a small off-season
affair, players use the National Indoor to continuously hone their skills in preparation
for the upcoming fall season.

Individual Honors
US Field Hockey Coaches of the Year
Each year, US Field Hockey solicits nominations for its National and
Developmental Coaches of the Year. Initiated in 1996, the program allows the USFHA
selections to advance as candidates for the USOC Coaches of the Year Awards.
US Field Hockey Athletes of the Year
US Field Hockey annually selects its male and female athletes of the year as
well as a team of the year.
The USFHA selections are then presented to the US Olympic Committee as nominees for the
USOC Athletes and Team of the Year.
Field Hockey Hall of Fame
Located at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., the field hockey Hall of Fame
was established in 1988 with the inaugural induction ceremonies. Selections are
based on an accrued point system.
FIH International Player of the Year
Established in 1998, The FIH Player of the Year is presented to the world's top
international field hockey athlete. Nominees from national federations are evaluated
by a selection panel that includes FIH coaches and umpires, members of the media and
members of the FIH Athletes' Panel.
Honda Awards
The Honda Motor Company annually presents the Honda Award to the most
outstanding collegiate field hockey player in the nation.
